If I were an artist I would want to make art in the Aude. The light, the colours, the textures, they all combine into something magical. Even though I don’t always take the time to fully appreciate the beauty around me I’m always aware of it.
This morning it’s -5, very cold and my least favourite kind of weather, but the sun is shining. It’s a bit thin but it’s warming the old stone of the barn that I can see from the office window. The shadows on the tile roof very defined.
Later this morning I have to go get groceries in Trebes and I know that there will places along the way where the view will fill me with joy.
What started me on this today? Le Cerf Gris. Richard and Mary have a gorgeous house in Moux near Carcassonne. They run a variety of art and activity holidays. Landscape, life, watercolours, and mosaic courses, wine tours, walking weeks, mediterranean cooking courses. The images on the site are so beautiful they made me think about how much I love it here and what a visual feast it is.
Art in SW France is in Montreal, also near Carcassonne. It’s an art and creative centre and they offer painting, sculpture, printmaking, art therapy and creative writing courses all year round.
AWPB is a printmaking and writing site. Mat Hilton offers printmaking courses at his atelier in Arquettes en Val in the Corbieres.
If you’re buried in winter this might be the time to plan an art holiday in the Aude.
