This is such a beautiful location, peaceful, bucolic. Only about 5 houses in the hameau but it’s only half an hour to Carcassonne. There is an actual listing with details, and the price is terrific, 215,000 euros, but I just want to gush.
It’s in a hameau and there are only 5 or 6 houses. All of them are stone, it’s like a postcard of a French hamlet. The hamlet is on the side of a hill and at the bottom there’s a small river with a gorgeous stone bridge.
Next to the house there’s an unused church still in perfect condition. A cemetery with a wall and the headstones still standing, a beautiful stone ruin that belongs to the house, it’s all idyllic.
There’s a trail through the forest to a Cictercian Abbeye, St Marie de Rieunette. The nuns make and sell jams. There are services in the chapel – which used to be a bergerie, and the cloister was restored a couple of years ago.
It’s a perfect vacation home if you’re trying to escape metropolitan hustle and bustle.
I love the house. It’s been well renovated, it’s bright, there are three terraces, the bedrooms are big.
