I’m in love with Labastide and with this house so no doubt I’ll gush.  It’s the kind of house we dream of when we think about buying property in the south of France.  A stone wine cave that’s been converted into a house.

It’s nice and bright, the terrace is private, there are views of the river, the hills, and the vineyards, it’s a perfect retreat.

Please e-mail me or call me at +33 (0)468 24 02 94 if you’d like to make an appointment to see it.  Don’t wait, I think this one is going to sell quickly.

The House:

The bedrooms and bathroom are on the ground floor.  French doors open from the bedroom.  The original cuves have been made into a bathroom and laundry room, and a bedroom/study.  The only disadvantage I can see with the house is that one of the bedrooms opens off the other.  It’s easy enough to change though.

You actually enter the house at the back, through the terrace.  The main floor is an open combination of living and dining space with a galley kitchen.  You can use the house year round, heating is with a Godin wood stove and electric wall heaters.

The Village:

Labastide en Val is tiny, maybe 65 people.  It’s beautiful.  The river runs alongside the street, there’s a lovely fountain in the square, the people are friendly.  Just outside of the village there’s river swimming and there’s also a lake about 5 minutes away.  The  whole area, the Val de Daigne, is  beautiful, hills, vines, and garrigue.

Love the stone work. We live in a stone house ourself and I can't imagine living anywhere else now. Brick/wood/masonery just look so boring once one has had the please of living with stone.

  2. Sam Mooney says:

For me the appeal is "old". Probably because I'm Canadian and we don;t have a lot of "old" real estate in Canada
