Lunch in Carcassonne, or, I was a Panna Cotta Virgin

L’Endroit, a restaurant in Carcassonne

open Tuesday through Saturday.

Yesterday a friend and I met for lunch in Carcassonne.  I never have a clue where to eat and usually end up at one of the cafes or restaurants in the Place Carnot.  Elaine suggested we try a restaurant one block away.  She’d been there before and said it was ok, we could sit outside, and it was a quiet street.

We found everything except the restaurant that Elaine had eaten at before.  It had obviously changed hands.  Instead we found tables with white linen tablecloths, looking very inviting.  We decided to try it.  Good decision.

The food was delicious.  Elaine had a smoked trout and yogurt salad and I had a caprese salad (I think it’s called a caprese salad, tomatoes and mozzarella) to start.  Great flavours and lovely presentation.  We both had a côte de cochon, actually a pork chop not a side of a pig as the name suggests.  It had a grainy mustard sauce and was served with hand made potato chips (crisps).  Mmmm.

For desert we had panna cotta.  I can’t believe I’ve lived this long without ever having eaten panna cotta.   Sublime.  Creamy, a little sweet, a strawberry coulis on top and i bite of fresh mint.  I’m definitely a convert.

Lunch was 22.00 euros each and included a glass of wine.  Maybe not for every day but definitely somewhere to go again.

Thanks Elaine!
